Limits and assumptions

  • The target preserves Crit Value only. Changing artifacts can also change ATK, Energy Recharge, Elemental Mastery, set bonuses, and other damage factors.
  • The optimum is continuous; real artifact substats roll in discrete increments, so use it as a nearby target.

How the Genshin Crit Ratio Optimizer works

This Genshin crit ratio optimizer finds the Crit Rate and Crit DMG allocation that produces the highest average critical-hit multiplier while preserving the same total Crit Value. Enter the complete crit stats active in the scenario you care about, then identify the portions that are locked because you are not changing their source. The result shows a mathematical target, the stat shifts needed to reach it, and the expected improvement from rebalancing alone.

The optimizer does not assume every stat can move. A character's starting stats, ascension stat, weapon secondary stat, reliable passives, or a circlet you intend to keep can create a fixed baseline. Everything above that baseline becomes the movable CV pool. This makes the recommendation more realistic than simply dividing total CV into a perfect-looking pair.

Why the 1:2 Crit Rate to Crit DMG ratio works

Average damage from crit stats is represented by 1 + CR × CD, with Crit Rate and Crit DMG written as decimals. One percentage point of Crit Rate costs twice as much Crit Value as one point of Crit DMG. For a freely redistributed, fixed budget, the product is largest when Crit DMG is twice Crit Rate. That is the source of the familiar 1:2 guideline.

The ratio is an allocation rule, not a complete build-ranking rule. A 70:140 build can lose to a 65:130 build that has more ATK, a stronger artifact set, enough Energy Recharge to maintain a rotation, or better reaction stats. Use the optimizer when the non-crit parts of the compared builds remain effectively unchanged.

Locked stats and movable Crit Value

Crit Value is calculated as 2 × Crit Rate + Crit DMG. If a build has 70% Crit Rate and 140% Crit DMG, it contains 280 CV in total under this convention. The game does not display CV directly; players use it as a compact way to compare crit allocation.

Locked values should describe stats that remain present in every build being compared. Include a conditional buff only if its uptime is reliable in the exact combat scenario. If a passive is active only against a specific enemy or during a short window, run separate calculations with and without it. Locked stats cannot be higher than the current complete stats because that would imply a negative movable budget.

What happens at 100% Crit Rate

Normal critical-hit probability stops increasing at 100% Crit Rate. An unconstrained 1:2 solution can sometimes ask for more than 100%, especially when a build has a large CV pool or Crit Rate is heavily locked. The optimizer caps the target probability at 100% and assigns every remaining movable CV point to Crit DMG. It also keeps an entered overcap value visible so wasted rate is not hidden.

This cap is why a valid optimized target may no longer display an exact 1:2 ratio. A result such as 100:240 is not mathematically unbalanced: rate has reached its useful ceiling, so extra budget has only one productive crit destination. Game-specific effects that convert excess Crit Rate into another stat require separate treatment and are not assumed here.

The diagram shows the full calculation path. The server first converts the current build to CV, subtracts locked CV, and then splits only the movable pool. Each possible split preserves the same budget; the selected split is the one with the largest expected crit multiplier after applying the Crit Rate cap.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Crit Rate to Crit DMG ratio in Genshin Impact?

A 1:2 Crit Rate to Crit DMG ratio maximizes the crit product for a fixed, freely movable CV budget before the rate cap. Locked stats, conditional buffs, and 100% Crit Rate can move the reachable target away from that visual ratio.

Is 70 Crit Rate and 140 Crit DMG good?

70:140 is perfectly balanced under the 1:2 rule and gives an expected crit multiplier of 1.98×. Whether the build is strong overall also depends on its scaling stat, damage bonuses, reactions, Energy Recharge, and rotation consistency.

How is Crit Value calculated in Genshin Impact?

Multiply Crit Rate by two and add Crit DMG. For example, 10% Crit Rate and 20% Crit DMG equal 40 CV; CV is community shorthand rather than a separate stat displayed by the game.

Should I use a Crit Rate or Crit DMG circlet?

Use the circlet that moves your complete build closer to the optimized target without sacrificing more valuable stats elsewhere. Compare the finished builds, including weapon and reliable buffs, rather than choosing from the circlet main stat in isolation.

Does Crit Rate over 100% increase damage?

For ordinary crit probability, rate beyond 100% does not create more than a guaranteed critical hit. The optimizer therefore caps effective probability while still displaying entered overcap, unless a separate character mechanic explicitly rewards excess rate.

Do conditional crit buffs count in the optimizer?

Count them in current and locked stats when they are active and reliable in the scenario you are optimizing. If uptime varies, calculate both states because a ratio optimized around a temporary buff may be rate-starved while that buff is inactive.
