How Steam Account Value Is Calculated

Every game in your library contributes its full retail price, plus any DLC or season-pass content you own. Add up every game, add your inventory value on top, and you get your total account worth. Here's the exact pipeline, worked through with Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion:

Example: Elden Ring has a $59.99 base price. Its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion adds $39.99 when the DLC toggle is enabled. $59.99 + $39.99 = $99.98 for that one line — sum every game's line value into your Library Value, then add your Inventory Value estimate for your final Total Account Value.

Library, Inventory, and Playtime — Three Different Numbers

A Steam account's worth isn't one number — it's three related but distinct measurements, and this calculator keeps them separate rather than blending them into a single misleading total.

Library Value — what you spent (at full retail price) across every game you own, including DLC and season-pass content you've toggled on.

Inventory Value — trading cards, gems, and item drops that carry real market value across your whole account, entered as a single estimate rather than modelled game-by-game.

Playtime — doesn't add a dollar to your total at all. Instead it measures efficiency: how many hours of entertainment you got per dollar spent, shown as a Cost Per Hour figure and a separate Playtime Tier badge.

DLC and Season Pass Pricing

Not every game has paid expansion content, and this calculator only shows the DLC toggle for titles that actually have one — Elden Ring, The Witcher 3, Civilization VI, and 12 other catalogued titles carry a real DLC value on top of their base price. Free-to-play titles and games with only free content updates (Stardew Valley, Terraria, Valheim) never show a DLC toggle at all.

DLC value only counts when toggled on. Owning a game doesn't automatically mean you own its expansions — leave the DLC checkbox off for any title where you only own the base game, and the calculator will only count its base retail price.

Genre Reference

Every game in your results carries a color-coded genre pill, and your Genre Breakdown chart groups your whole library by these same nine categories.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my Steam account value calculated?
Each game contributes its base retail price, plus any DLC or season-pass value you've toggled on, into a Library Value total. Your entered Inventory Value estimate is added on top to produce your Total Account Value. Hours played don't affect this dollar figure — they only feed a separate Cost Per Hour and Playtime Tier calculation.
Are these game prices live Steam Store data?
No. Prices used here are illustrative, full-retail reference figures for well-known titles — not a live Steam Store feed. Real prices vary by region, currency, and constant sale activity, so always cross-check the Steam Store directly for a purchase decision.
How do I find my real Steam inventory value?
Open your Steam Community profile and visit your "My Inventory" page — Steam displays an estimated market value for tradable items directly. SteamDB's inventory tools give a more detailed breakdown by game and item type. Enter that figure into the Inventory Value field for an accurate total.
Why doesn't this tool model CS2 skins or Dota 2 items directly?
A Steam account can hold items from dozens of different games at once, which makes a single shared item catalogue impractical. If you specifically want a detailed, item-by-item CS2 breakdown, use the site's dedicated CS2 Inventory Value Calculator — it prices every knife, glove, skin, and case individually with wear and StatTrak™ multipliers, then feed that total into this tool's Inventory Value field.
What counts as a good Cost Per Hour?
There's no official benchmark, but many gamers treat under $1.00 per hour as strong value — comparable to or better than a movie ticket per hour of entertainment. Long single-player RPGs and multiplayer live-service titles with hundreds of hours logged typically post the lowest Cost Per Hour figures.
Does toggling DLC on affect my Cost Per Hour?
Yes. DLC value is added directly to that game's Line Value, which flows into Library Value — the numerator of the Cost Per Hour formula. Toggling DLC on without adding the extra hours you spent in that expansion content will push your Cost Per Hour up.
How many games can I add to one calculation?
Up to 60 game rows per calculation, each with its own hours-played figure and DLC toggle. That's enough headroom to total most real Steam libraries in a single pass.
Why are free-to-play games included if they have no price?
Titles like Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 contribute $0 to your Library Value, but their hours still count toward Total Hours Played and your Playtime Tier — free-to-play games are often where the heaviest playtime lives, even though they add nothing to your dollar total.
