How NPC & Boss Respawn Timers Work
Most MMOs and open-world games use a fixed-duration respawn mechanic: the timer starts the moment an NPC or boss is killed (or looted), and the NPC re-spawns when that window expires. Some games run a global server-wide spawn schedule instead — Lost Ark world bosses, for example, spawn at fixed clock times regardless of when they were last killed.
Variance is common for rare open-world spawns. World of Warcraft rare elites typically have a ±5–10 minute variance on their base respawn, meaning the actual spawn can arrive slightly earlier or later than the calculated time. Setting a variance window tells you the earliest and latest time to watch the spawn location.
Elden Ring is a special case — enemies respawn instantly the moment you rest at a Site of Grace, so the "respawn timer" is effectively your own travel time back to the location. Set the duration to 0 and use this tool to track when you triggered the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the respawn time change each calculation?
The countdown is calculated from the moment you submit the form, using your input (minutes since kill or exact time) to find the absolute respawn timestamp. If you re-submit a few minutes later, the remaining time will be smaller — that is correct behaviour, not a bug.
What does "Exact Time" mode do?
Exact Time lets you enter the clock time you killed the NPC (24-hour format). If the time you enter is in the future, the calculator assumes you killed it yesterday — this handles the case where you killed something just before midnight and are checking the respawn the following day.
Why does the progress bar fill instead of empty?
The bar represents elapsed time, not remaining time. A full bar means the respawn is ready. This is intentional — a growing bar gives a more intuitive sense of "time passed" rather than a draining countdown.
Does this work for weekly reset timers?
Yes — set the hours to 168 (7 × 24) and minutes to 0. Enter the time of the last reset as the kill time. The calculator will give you the exact timestamp of the next weekly reset with a live countdown.
What is a respawn variance window?
Some game engines add a random delay of ±N minutes to prevent players from camping a single spawn point too mechanically. Setting a variance of 10 minutes on a 30-minute respawn means the NPC can appear anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes after the kill — the calculator shows both extremes so you know the full watch window.
