Exact Math, No Fabricated Mount Database

There's no bad-luck-protection pity timer for legacy mount drops in World of Warcraft — every kill is an independent trial, confirmed by Blizzard forum discussion. Your 200th attempt has exactly the same drop chance as your first. That makes the cumulative-chance formula exact math, not an estimate — the only real uncertainty is the drop rate itself.

Blizzard doesn't publish official drop rates for most mounts, so this tool doesn't hardcode a mount database — you enter your own researched rate (from Wowhead or similar) and the tool computes the exact probability from there. Gold-per-hour is even more volatile (realm economy, current-expansion demand, your own farming skill), so that panel works the same way: enter your own tracked time and value per run, and compare routes on equal footing.

How Both Calculators Work

Drop Chance Gold Per Hour Drop Rate (your own research) 1 − (1 − p)^Attempts Cumulative Chance (exact) Reverse: attempts for 50/90/99% Minutes Per Run (yours) 60 ÷ Minutes = Runs/Hour × Value Per Run (yours) Gold Per Hour Both pipelines take your own researched or tracked numbers — no hardcoded mount rates or route values.

A Worked Example

At a 1% drop rate, 100 kills gives roughly a 63.4% cumulative chance of at least one drop — not 100%, and not 63 "guaranteed" runs. Independent trials mean a meaningful chunk of players (roughly one in three) will still be empty-handed after 100 attempts at that rate, and there's no pity system to catch them. This is exactly what 1 − (1 − 0.01)^100 computes, and it's the same formula this tool runs on your own numbers.

Does Group Size Change My Odds?

For most current-content mount drops under Personal Loot, each player in a group has an independent shot at the mount — the drop chance isn't divided among group members. This has evolved across expansions and isn't perfectly uniform for every legacy loot system, so treat this calculator's Attempts field as your own personal kill count regardless of group size, not a shared pool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there bad luck protection for mount drops?

Not for legacy mount drops — every kill is an independent trial with the exact same chance regardless of how many times you've farmed it before. This is confirmed by Blizzard forum discussion and is the basis of the exact math this calculator runs.

Where do I find my mount's drop rate?

Wowhead aggregates drop-rate data from millions of tracked kills via its Looter addon, and it's the most reliable community source. Blizzard doesn't publish official rates for most mounts, so treat any number as a community estimate, not a guarantee.

Why isn't there a mount list to pick from?

Because the roster is enormous (hundreds of mounts across many expansions) and Blizzard doesn't publish official rates for most of them — hardcoding a "drop rate database" would imply false precision. Enter your own researched rate instead.

How is gold-per-hour calculated?

(Value per run ÷ minutes per run) × 60 — a straightforward rate conversion using your own tracked or estimated numbers. This tool doesn't estimate what any specific route is worth, since realm economy and demand shift too fast to hardcode.

What's the "attempts needed for 90% confidence" number?

It's the reverse of the same formula — how many kills, at your entered drop rate, would give you a 90% (or 50%/99%) cumulative chance of at least one drop. It's a planning number, not a guarantee your Nth attempt will drop it.

Do special events like Collector's Bounty change the math?

They change the drop rate input, not the formula. Blizzard has temporarily boosted legacy mount drop rates by as much as 5–10× during limited-time events — if you're farming during one, use the boosted rate you've researched, not the baseline rate.
