How Marvel Rivals Ranked Works
Marvel Rivals uses a Rank Rating (RR) system where you earn RR for wins and lose it for losses. Each rank tier — Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Grandmaster — is divided into three divisions (III, II, I), and each division holds 100 RR. When you fill a division's 100 RR you promote to the next; if you drop to 0 RR you risk demotion to the division below.
Unlike games with separate gain/loss penalties by performance, Marvel Rivals keeps the loss penalty fixed at 15 RR per loss across all tiers. Wins earn slightly more at lower ranks (20 RR in Bronze–Silver) and slightly less at higher ranks (16 RR in Grandmaster), which means your effective climb speed decreases as you approach the top. The gap between wins and losses — your net RR per game — is the single most important number for predicting how long your climb will take.
Season 4 introduced placement matches: 10 games played at the start of the season that determine your starting rank. A clean 10-win placement run can place you directly into Diamond III, while a 4–6 win result typically lands you in Silver or Gold. The placement calculator on this page lets you select your expected win count to see your starting rank and then plan your climb from there.
RR Per Win/Loss by Rank Tier
| Rank Tier | RR Range | Win | Loss | Net at 50% WR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze (I–III) | 0 – 299 | +20 RR | −15 RR | +2.5 RR |
| Silver (I–III) | 300 – 599 | +20 RR | −15 RR | +2.5 RR |
| Gold (I–III) | 600 – 899 | +19 RR | −15 RR | +2.0 RR |
| Platinum (I–III) | 900 – 1199 | +18 RR | −15 RR | +1.5 RR |
| Diamond (I–III) | 1200 – 1499 | +17 RR | −15 RR | +1.0 RR |
| Grandmaster (I–III) | 1500 – 1800 | +16 RR | −15 RR | +0.5 RR |
At 50% win rate, net RR per game drops to +0.5 RR at Grandmaster — climbing the top of the ladder at exactly half your games requires enormous volume. A 55%+ win rate is where meaningful progress begins at Diamond and above.
Season 4 Placement Matches: What Rank Will You Start?
Season 4 introduced 10 placement matches to seed every player at the start of the season. Your W-L record in those 10 games determines your starting rank regardless of last season's position — a fresh ranking slate every season.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much RR do you get per win in Marvel Rivals?
RR per win decreases slightly as you climb: 20 RR in Bronze and Silver, 19 in Gold, 18 in Platinum, 17 in Diamond, and 16 in Grandmaster. Losses deduct a fixed 15 RR at every tier. The shrinking win reward at higher ranks reflects tighter skill brackets — each division genuinely represents a meaningful skill step at that level.
How many wins do I need to reach Grandmaster in Marvel Rivals?
It depends entirely on your win rate. From Gold I at 55% win rate playing 5 games per day, the calculator estimates roughly 120 games (~24 days) to reach Grandmaster III. At exactly 50% win rate the math barely moves you forward — Diamond and above at 50% requires hundreds of games per division. Improving your win rate from 50% to 55% cuts the grind roughly in half.
Can you get demoted in Marvel Rivals ranked?
Yes. If your RR reaches 0 in a division and you lose another game, you drop to the previous division at 75 RR (not 99 — there is a small demotion protection buffer). You cannot be demoted from one tier to another (e.g. from Gold III to Silver I) in a single loss — demotion protection prevents cross-tier drops until you have played several games in the new tier.
What rank do you start at after placement matches in Season 4?
Your starting rank is determined purely by your win count in 10 placement games: 4 wins lands you Silver III, 6 wins lands you Gold III, 8 wins lands you Platinum III, and a perfect 10-0 run places you directly in Diamond III. Returning players with a strong prior season history may be seeded slightly higher, but the placement W-L record is the primary factor.
Does win rate or number of wins matter more for climbing?
Win rate determines your speed; total games determine your arrival time. A 55% win rate playing 3 games per day will reach Grandmaster faster than a 52% win rate playing 6 games per day — despite the lower game volume. Focus on improving consistency and hero mastery first. Once your win rate is consistently above 54%, increasing games per day compounds your progress significantly.
