How Does Apex Legends Ranked Work?
Apex Legends Ranked Leagues is the competitive Battle Royale mode where players earn Ranked Points (RP) — also called LP (Ladder Points) — based on match performance. Your final placement and eliminations both contribute to your RP gain, while every match deducts an entry cost that scales with your current tier.
There are eight tiers: Rookie, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator. The first six tiers each have four divisions (IV through I). Master and Apex Predator function as global leaderboards — Master starts at 16,000 RP, while Apex Predator represents the top 750 players per platform.
The RP System Explained
RP is earned through two factors: placement and eliminations (kills + assists). Placement matters more the higher you finish — kills are worth significantly more RP when you place in the Top 10, and even more in the Top 5. After 6 eliminations, the RP value per kill is halved, so aggression has diminishing returns.
| Placement | Base RP | RP per Kill/Assist |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | 125 | 26 |
| 2nd | 95 | 22 |
| 3rd | 70 | 18 |
| 4th | 55 | 16 |
| 5th | 45 | 16 |
| 6th–7th | 30 | 14 |
| 8th–10th | 20 | 12 |
| 11th–15th | 5 | 10 |
| 16th+ | 0 | 10 |

Rank Tier RP Thresholds
Each tier requires a specific amount of total RP to enter. Entry costs increase as you climb, making higher-tier progression progressively harder.
| Tier | RP Threshold | Entry Cost | Division Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rookie | 0 – 750 | Free | 250 LP |
| Bronze | 1,000 – 2,500 | 10 – 19 RP | 500 LP |
| Silver | 3,000 – 4,500 | 20 – 29 RP | 500 LP |
| Gold | 5,250 – 7,500 | 35 – 44 RP | 750 LP |
| Platinum | 8,250 – 11,000 | 45 – 54 RP | 750 – 1,000 LP |
| Diamond | 12,000 – 15,000 | 65 – 74 RP | 1,000 LP |
| Master | 16,000+ | 90+ RP | — |
| Apex Predator | Top 750 (dynamic) | 90+ RP | — |
Tips to Climb Faster
Survive First, Fight Second
Kills are worth almost nothing below 10th place. Prioritize placement until you reach the mid-game.
Play with a Consistent Squad
Solo queue variance is high. A fixed trio with comms will dramatically improve your RP/match consistency.
Know When to Disengage
Third parties are the #1 cause of negative RP games. If a fight drags on, leave. Placement > kills.
Warm Up Before Ranked
Firing Range or Arenas for 10 minutes improves your mechanical consistency and reduces early-death losses.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many RP do I need for Apex Predator?
Apex Predator is the top 750 players per platform, so the threshold is dynamic. As of recent splits, it typically sits around 20,000–26,000 RP depending on platform: PC is highest (~25,000+), PlayStation (~20,000+), Xbox (~18,000+), and Nintendo Switch (~16,000+). The threshold rises throughout the split as more players grind.
What is a good average RP per match?
A positive RP gain is the baseline — anything above 0 means you're climbing. For steady progression: +20–40 RP/match is solid, +40–60 RP/match is strong, and +60+ RP/match is predator-tier consistency. Remember this is net RP after entry cost, so in Diamond (65 RP entry) a 5th place with 3 kills (~93 RP gross) gives roughly +28 net.
How long is a ranked split?
Each Apex Legends season has two splits, each lasting roughly 6–8 weeks. At the split reset, your rank drops by up to 6 divisions. For example, Master players reset to Platinum I (11,000 RP). This means if you're grinding to Predator, you have a limited window each split to make the climb.
Can I demote from a tier?
Yes — except from Rookie. Once you leave Rookie, you cannot drop back into it. For all other tiers (Bronze through Master), you can demote if your RP falls below the tier threshold. You get 3 games of demotion protection after promoting to a new tier.
Why does my RP gain feel slow in Diamond?
Diamond entry costs are 65–74 RP per match. To break even, you need roughly 4th place with 2+ kills. To climb consistently, you need Top 3 with multiple kills — which is why many players plateau here. The jump from Diamond to Master (16,000 RP) requires roughly 1,000+ net RP, which at +30 RP/match is about 35 matches.
Does the calculator account for streak bonuses?
Not directly. The calculator uses your average net RP per match as input, which should already include any streak bonuses (Top 5 streak: +10 RP per consecutive Top 5, up to +40) and Challenger bonuses (+50% RP when killing a higher-ranked player). If you consistently hit streaks, your average will naturally be higher.
What is the fastest way to climb from Gold to Master?
The fastest way is a balanced playstyle: land semi-hot for 1–2 early kills, then play for placement. Early kills are cheap entry-cost insurance — even a 10th place finish with 2 kills breaks even in Gold. Avoid ratting (hiding all game) because your RP/match will be too low to climb efficiently.
