How This HSR Relic Score Calculator Works

Every Honkai: Star Rail relic — Head, Hands, Body, Feet, Planar Sphere, or Link Rope — carries a fixed Main Stat and up to four random Substats. The Main Stat is deterministic, so it's the same on every copy of that piece at the same level; it's the Substats that are random, and it's the Substats this calculator grades. A maxed 5★ relic (+15) can have up to 9 total substat rolls spread across those four lines — that's the ceiling every score here is measured against, matching the convention used by every community relic scorer.

Pick a Build Role (Crit DPS, Break DPS, SPD/Support, or HP-DEF Sustain), enter a relic's substats, and get back a Roll Value % (how lucky the piece rolled, regardless of role), a role-weighted Score % (how good it actually is for that build), and a Substat CRIT Value figure — for a single piece, or a full 6-piece build.

The 9-Roll Ceiling, Visualized

Every gear slot can carry up to 4 substats. Across a relic's full life from +0 to +15, those substats share a combined maximum of 9 rolls. Roll Value % and Score % are both measured against that same fixed ceiling.

Roll Value % ignores role entirely — it's a pure measure of how lucky a relic's overall investment was. Score % applies the selected role's per-stat weights, so the exact same relic can score very differently depending on whether it's being judged for a Crit DPS, Break DPS, SPD/Support, or Sustain build.

Roll Value %, Score %, and CRIT Value — What Each Number Means

RV%

Roll Value %

Total rolls used across all substats, divided by the 9-roll ceiling. Role-agnostic — it only tells you how lucky the piece is, not whether those rolls landed on stats you actually want.

Score%

Role-Weighted Score

The same rolls, but each one is multiplied by how relevant that stat is to your chosen Build Role before dividing by 9. This is the number that actually tells you whether a piece is good for the build you're running.

CV

Substat CRIT Value

(CRIT Rate% substat × 2) + CRIT DMG% substat — the community-standard shorthand for how much raw crit a piece is carrying, counting substats only. Most useful on Crit DPS builds.

A relic can have a high RV% but a low Score% — that means it rolled well overall, just not into stats that matter for the role you selected. That mismatch is exactly what the calculator's Tips flag when it happens.

Why the Main Stat Isn't Scored

A relic's Main Stat is fixed by the game and grows on a deterministic schedule as the piece levels up — it's never random, so there's nothing to grade. Two Body pieces with the same Main Stat and the same level always have the exact same Main Stat value; only their Substats can differ. Every established relic-scoring convention grades Substats only for this reason, and this calculator follows that convention.

That said, Main Stat choice still matters enormously for a build — a Body piece with an off-role Main Stat (like HP% on a Crit DPS build) wastes the single highest-value stat slot on the relic, even if its Substats roll perfectly. The calculator still checks this: in Full Build mode, any piece whose Main Stat isn't ideal for the selected role gets flagged in the Tips section.

Role Weight Reference

Each Build Role weights the 12 possible substats differently. A weight of 1.00 means that stat is a perfect fit for the role; lower weights mean the stat is still useful but not the priority.

A fifth role, Balanced / Hybrid, weights every stat at roughly 0.35–0.55 for a generalist build that isn't optimized around any single stat.

What Counts as a Good Relic Score?

85%+ Score — S+ (Endgame BiS) — near-perfect for the selected role, ready for the hardest content.

70–84.9% — S (Excellent) — strong, reliable, no meaningful weaknesses.

55–69.9% — A (Great) — a solid piece with room to improve one line.

40–54.9% — B (Good / Usable) — works fine, but multiple lines are off-role or under-rolled.

25–39.9% — C (Below Average) — usable as a placeholder while farming a replacement.

Under 25% — D (Reroll Candidate) — the substats are mismatched or barely rolled for this role.

These thresholds apply to both the single-relic Score % and the full-build average Score % — a Build Grade of S means the average piece in that build is performing at Excellent, not that every single piece individually hit S.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Roll Value (RV%) in Honkai: Star Rail?
Roll Value % converts a relic's substat values into "rolls used" — each substat's entered value divided by that stat's average roll value — then sums them and divides by the fixed 9-roll ceiling every maxed 5★ relic can reach. It's a role-agnostic measure of how lucky a relic's overall investment was, independent of which stats it actually rolled into.
How is CRIT Value (CV) calculated?
CRIT Value = (CRIT Rate% × 2) + CRIT DMG%. The ×2 multiplier exists because CRIT DMG%'s average roll is almost exactly double CRIT Rate%'s average roll, so this formula treats a roll into either stat as contributing equally to your overall crit power. This calculator reports Substat CV specifically — it only counts CRIT Rate%/CRIT DMG% that appear as substats, not a piece's Main Stat.
Why doesn't main stat affect my relic score?
Main stats are deterministic, not random — every relic of the same slot, main stat, and level has an identical main stat value. Since scoring measures how lucky your RNG was, and main stats involve no RNG, every relic scorer (this one included) grades substats only. Main Stat choice still matters for a build, which is why an off-role Main Stat gets flagged separately in Full Build mode's Tips.
What's a good relic score for endgame content?
A Score % of 70+ (S grade) is generally strong enough for Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow at full stars. Below 40% (B grade or lower), the piece is usually costing you meaningful damage or survivability compared to a better-rolled replacement — worth prioritizing a reroll or farm session for that slot.
How many total substat rolls can a 5-star relic have?
Nine, spread across up to 4 substat lines. A relic drops with 3 or 4 initial lines, then gains one additional roll at each upgrade step (+3, +6, +9, +12, +15 — five upgrades total). Whether a relic starts with 3 or 4 lines, it always reaches 9 total rolls by +15, which is why this calculator uses 9 as the universal scoring ceiling regardless of the level you enter.
Should I reroll or salvage a low-scoring relic?
If a piece scores D or low C for every role you play, it's rarely worth keeping over farming a fresh drop — Honkai: Star Rail doesn't let you reroll a relic's substats directly, so "reroll" in practice means replacing it. In Full Build mode, the Tips section automatically calls out your single weakest piece as the best replacement priority.
What's the difference between Roll Value % and the role-weighted Score %?
RV% ignores role and just measures total investment — a piece stacked with DEF% and HP could still show a high RV%. Score % applies your selected Build Role's weights before dividing by 9, so that same DEF/HP-stacked piece would score poorly for Crit DPS but well for HP-DEF Sustain. Score % is the number to trust when deciding whether a piece fits the build you're actually running.
Does relic set bonus matter for this calculator?
No — set bonuses (2-piece and 4-piece Cavern Relic effects, 2-piece Planar Ornament effects) are fixed the moment you choose which sets to equip, so there's nothing random to score. This calculator focuses purely on substat RNG quality, which is the part of relic strength that actually varies between two copies of the exact same set and slot.
