How the Pokémon GO IV calculator works
This Pokémon GO IV calculator turns the three appraisal values into a total out of 45 and an IV percentage. Select an exact species and form to add current and maximum CP projections. If the appraisal values are unavailable, reverse mode tests the observed CP, full HP, and next-power-up Stardust cost against possible half levels and IV combinations.
Appraisal behavior is documented by Pokémon GO support. CP equations, level multipliers, and species base stats are community-researched data because the complete numeric formula is not published in the official help center. Results are estimates and this site is not affiliated with Niantic, Scopely, The Pokémon Company, or Nintendo.
What Attack, Defense, and HP IVs mean
Every caught Pokémon has three individual values from zero to 15. Attack IV adds to the species' base Attack, Defense IV adds to base Defense, and HP IV adds to base Stamina before level scaling. Evolving or powering up preserves these IVs. Purification is a separate irreversible action that can raise each stat by two, capped at 15.
Species base stats usually matter much more than a few IV points. A high-IV Pokémon with low species Attack does not automatically out-damage a lower-IV raid attacker from a stronger species. Moves, level, weather, friendship bonuses, and battle format also affect practical performance.
Pokémon GO IV percentage and appraisal stars
IV percentage is the sum of Attack, Defense, and HP divided by 45. A 15/15/15 Pokémon is a 100% IV “hundo.” A 0/15/15 spread totals 30 out of 45, or 66.7%, even though that spread may be useful under a PvP CP cap.
| IV total | IV percentage range | Appraisal | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–22 | 0–48.9% | 0 stars | Lowest appraisal band |
| 23–29 | 51.1–64.4% | 1 star | First star band |
| 30–36 | 66.7–80.0% | 2 stars | Middle appraisal band |
| 37–44 | 82.2–97.8% | 3 stars | High appraisal band |
| 45 | 100% | Perfect / 4★ | 15/15/15 hundo |
How CP and max CP are calculated
Combat Power combines final Attack with the square roots of final Defense and Stamina, then applies the square of the Combat Power Multiplier for the Pokémon's hidden level. The game floors the result and enforces a minimum CP of 10. Max CP therefore depends on species, form, all three IVs, and level.
Attack input
Base Attack + Attack IV
Defense input
√(Base Defense + Defense IV)
Stamina input
√(Base Stamina + HP IV)
Combine stats

CP output

HP branch
Stamina × CPM → floor → HP
The upper flow produces CP, while the green branch produces HP and the lower flow converts the three IVs into appraisal percentage. The calculator uses an exact multiplier for each supported half level rather than interpolating missing levels.
How to find IVs from CP, HP, and Stardust
Several half levels share the same next-power-up cost, and rounded CP can match multiple IV spreads. Reverse lookup enumerates the valid levels in the selected Stardust band and keeps only combinations whose calculated CP and full HP match exactly. Appraisal ranges narrow the list substantially.
Always enter maximum HP, not the remaining HP after battle damage. Choose the exact regional or alternate form because different forms can have different base stats. When multiple candidates remain, the tool reports possibilities instead of pretending the highest percentage is your answer.
Shadow purification and IV changes
Purifying a Shadow Pokémon adds two points to each IV, with every stat capped at 15. For example, 13/13/13 becomes 15/15/15, while 15/10/14 becomes 15/12/15. The preview shows the mathematical IV and CP change only.
Purification cannot be reversed and changes Shadow battle properties, resource costs, and available moves. A higher appraisal percentage does not by itself prove purification is strategically better.
IV percentage versus PvP IV ranking
Overall IV percentage rewards all three stats equally. Great League and Ultra League ranking instead asks which spread produces the strongest stat product without exceeding a CP limit. Because Attack is weighted heavily in the CP formula, lower Attack can allow extra levels and more bulk under the cap.
This page calculates appraisal quality and CP, not species-specific PvP rank. A 100% Pokémon is usually ideal when there is no restrictive CP cap, but capped leagues require a dedicated ranking dataset that accounts for species, level, and eligible forms.
Pokémon GO IV and CP formula reference
- IV percentage: (Attack IV + Defense IV + HP IV) ÷ 45 × 100.
- CP: Attack × √Defense × √Stamina × CPM² ÷ 10, floored with a minimum of 10.
- HP: Stamina × CPM, floored with a minimum of 10.
- Purification: add two to every IV, with each capped at 15.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check IVs in Pokémon GO?
Open a Pokémon, choose Appraise, and read the Attack, Defense, and HP bars. Enter the values from zero to 15 here to receive the exact total and percentage.
What is a 100% IV Pokémon?
A 100% Pokémon has 15 Attack, 15 Defense, and 15 HP IVs, totaling 45. Players commonly call it a hundo.
Does evolving or powering up change IVs?
No. Official appraisal guidance states that evolving and powering up do not improve appraisal, although both can increase CP or HP.
How much do IVs affect max CP?
The effect depends on species base stats because IVs are added before the CP formula. Compare the entered-IV and perfect-IV projections rather than treating percentage as the same as CP percentage.
Why can low Attack IV be better for PvP?
Attack raises CP more aggressively, so lower Attack may allow more levels and defensive bulk below a league cap. The best spread is species- and league-specific.
Does purifying a Shadow Pokémon improve its IVs?
Purification adds two points to each IV and caps each at 15. It also makes irreversible gameplay changes, so the IV increase should not be the only consideration.
