How Grow a Garden Crop Value Is Calculated

Every crop's final Sheckle value comes from five multipliers stacked on top of a base price. Here's the exact pipeline, worked through with a Rainbow Sunflower carrying an Astral + Cosmic mutation:

Base Value

$35

×

Weight²

16x

×

Variant

Rainbow 50x

×

Mutation

604x

×

Friend Bonus

1.0x

=

Final Value

$16.9M

Example: Sunflower (base $35, base weight 1.5kg) at 6kg → weight ratio (6/1.5)² = 16x. Rainbow variant = 50x. Astral (365) + Cosmic (240) mutation stack = 1 + 365 + 240 − 2 = 604x. Result: 35 × 16 × 50 × 604 ≈ $16.9M.

FactorFormula
Weight Ratio(Current Weight ÷ Base Weight)² — heavier crops scale quadratically, not linearly
VariantExclusive multiplier — Normal 1x, Silver 5x, Gold 20x, Rainbow 50x
Mutation Stack1 + Σ(selected mutation values) − N(selected count)
Friend Bonus1 + (boost % ÷ 100) — applied last, multiplies the whole total

Crop Variants Explained

A crop's Variant is rolled independently of its mutations and is exclusive — a crop can only be one variant at a time. Variants are the single biggest lever on value after weight, so always check the variant badge before deciding whether a crop is worth harvesting or replanting.

Normal

1×

The default state for every crop. No visual effect.

Silver

5×

Uncommon roll. Crop has a metallic silver sheen.

Gold

20×

Rare roll. Solid gold coloring — always worth harvesting.

Rainbow

50×

The rarest variant. Cycles through rainbow colors — never sell one without checking its full mutation stack first.

Gold and Rainbow cannot occur on the same crop — they're mutually exclusive rolls, same as Silver. If your crop shows a variant color, that's the only variant multiplier that applies; it does not stack with the other three.

How Mutation Stacking Works

Unlike Variants, mutations stack — a single crop can carry multiple mutations at once, and each one adds to the total multiplier using an additive formula rather than multiplying separately. This is the part players get wrong most often, so here's exactly how it works:

Formula

Multiplier = 1 + (Σ selected mutation values) − (number of mutations selected)

Worked Example — Astral + Cosmic

1 + (365 + 240) − 2 = 604×

Why Wet + Chilled Don't Stack

Wet and Chilled are mutually exclusive with each other in one specific case: when a crop rolls both simultaneously, the game merges them into a single Frozen mutation (value 10) instead of applying Wet (2) and Chilled (2) as two separate entries. The calculator above automatically detects this combination and applies the merge for you.

Offline Growth — What Happens While You're Away?

Grow a Garden keeps your plots growing even while you're logged out, which is the core of its daily check-in loop. The Offline Growth tab estimates how many harvest cycles would fit into your time away, based on the crop's growth time and how many plots you had planted.

  • Short crops (Common): 2–6 minute growth times — check back frequently to keep plots cycling.
  • Mid crops (Rare): 13–20 minutes — ideal for an "overnight" or lunch-break check-in.
  • Long crops (Legendary+): 1–2.5 hours — best planted right before you log off for the day.

Plan your session around the slowest crop in rotation: plant fast Common crops for active play, and queue up a batch of Legendary-or-higher seeds right before you log off so they're ready the next time you check in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Grow a Garden actually grow while I'm offline?
Yes. Planted crops continue their growth timer whether you're online or not, which is what makes the daily check-in loop work. The Offline Growth tab on this page estimates how many harvest cycles have completed based on your crop's growth time and how long you've been away.
How do mutations stack?
Mutations use an additive stacking formula, not a straight multiplication: Multiplier = 1 + (sum of each mutation's value) − (number of mutations selected). Two mutations rated at 365 and 240 don't multiply to 87,600× — they combine to 1 + 365 + 240 − 2 = 604×. Always use the calculator rather than eyeballing it; the "minus N" term catches most players off guard.
What's the best mutation combo?
Astral (365) and Cosmic (240) together give the highest multiplier of any two-mutation combo currently documented — 604×. Adding a third stacking mutation like Void Touched pushes it to 1 + 365 + 240 + 135 − 3 = 738×. Because the formula subtracts one per mutation, chasing the single highest-value mutations beats collecting many low-value ones.
Do Gold and Rainbow variants stack together?
No. Normal, Silver, Gold, and Rainbow are all the same "Variant" slot on a crop — only one can apply at a time. A crop showing Rainbow is already at the maximum 50× variant multiplier; it will never also show as Gold. Mutations (Wet, Shocked, Astral, etc.) are separate from Variant and do stack with whichever variant the crop rolled.
Why does weight matter so much for value?
Weight is squared in the value formula, not applied linearly. A crop at 2× its base weight isn't worth 2× as much — it's worth 4× as much, because (2/1)² = 4. This is why growing a small number of exceptionally heavy crops usually beats harvesting many crops at base weight, especially for high-rarity plants where the base value is already large.
Are these crop values accurate for the current game version?
The base values, weights, and growth times used here are community-verified figures gathered from the Grow a Garden wiki and community data sites. Grow a Garden receives frequent balance updates, so exact numbers can shift — the formula (weight ratio × variant × mutation stack × friend bonus) is stable and will always apply correctly even as individual crop base values change.
