The Science of Weapon Lethality: HTK Breakpoint Guide
In high-stakes tactical shooters like Valorant, CS2, and Warzone, understanding exactly how many shots it takes to down an opponent is the difference between a calculated play and a costly mistake. This guide breaks down the Headshot-to-Kill (HTK) math and how distance and armor plates reshape the competitive meta.
Understanding the One-Tap Window
Modern game engines utilize "Damage Tiers" based on the projectile's travel time or distance. For example, the Phantom in Valorant remains a one-tap headshot up to 15 meters, but drops to 140 damage thereafter. This 15m mark is the Fatal Breakpoint. Beyond this distance, the weapon's "Time-to-Kill" (TTK) essentially doubles as it now requires two successful headshots or a head-body mix.
The Lethality Formula
This formula, used in our HTK Calculator, accounts for various protection tiers. If your Final_Dmg is 149 and the enemy has 150 EHP (Base 100 + Heavy Armor 50), your HTK jumps from 1 to 2, increasing your risk by 100%.
Armor Interaction
In games like Warzone, Armor Plates provide a flat HP buffer, while CS2 uses a "Damage Reduction" percentage based on the weapon's Armor Penetration stat. Use our calculator to see if upgrading your armor level actually changes the HTK of the server's most popular weapons.
The Stim Buffer
Activating a Stim or health-over-time effect can push your EHP just high enough to survive a sniper headshot or a close-range burst. Analyzing these Micro-Breakpoints allows competitive teams to time their pushes for maximum survivability. Combine this with our Peeker's Advantage tool to master the "Stim-Swing" technique.
