Flea Market vs. Traders: Where Should You Sell?

In Escape from Tarkov, every Rouble counts. Whether you are grinding quests, building your Hideout, or saving up for that meta loadout, deciding where to sell your loot can mean the difference between profit and loss. The flea market promises higher prices — but hidden fees and tax penalties can eat into your margins faster than you expect.

Our calculator cuts through the guesswork. Enter any item's trader buy price, your desired flea listing price, your Intel Center level, and the item category. Instantly see your net profit after fees, how it compares to selling directly to a trader, your break-even listing price, and the optimal price to maximize profit.

This tool uses a BSG-formula-shaped fee model that accounts for price divergence, item category multipliers, and Intel Center tax discounts. The result is an accurate, actionable recommendation you can trust before you list.

How Flea Market Fees Work in Tarkov

Battlestate Games uses a dynamic fee system designed to prevent market manipulation and keep prices grounded. The core idea is simple: the further your listing price is from the item's base (trader) price, the higher the fee. This applies symmetrically — listing way above base or way below base both trigger penalties.

  1. Base fee rate — Starts at roughly 1.5% of the trader price. This is the minimum fee when listing exactly at base price.
  2. Divergence penalty — As your listing price moves away from base, a non-linear penalty kicks in. The penalty grows faster than linearly, making extreme listings prohibitively expensive.
  3. Category multiplier — Weapons and keys carry higher fees (1.15× and 1.20×), while provisions and medical items are cheaper (0.90× and 0.95×).
  4. Intel Center discount — Each Intel Center level reduces the fee by 10%, up to 30% at Level 3. This is a massive upgrade for active traders.

Because of this system, simply listing an item at double its trader price does not double your profit. The fee scales aggressively, and there is always an optimal listing price that maximizes your net earnings. Our calculator finds it automatically. Is Upgrading Intel Center Worth It?

The Hideout Intel Center is one of the most impactful upgrades for players who actively use the flea market. Here's the breakdown:

LevelTax ReductionExample Savings (210k₽ item)
None0%—
Level 110%~3,150 ₽ per listing
Level 220%~6,300 ₽ per listing
Level 330%~9,450 ₽ per listing

If you list just 5 items per day on the flea market, Intel Center Level 3 saves you roughly 47,250 ₽ daily — or over 1.4 million ₽ per month. The upgrade pays for itself within days for active traders. Check current flea prices on Tarkov.dev to verify margins before listing.

Item Category Tax Multipliers

Not all items are taxed equally on the Tarkov flea market. BSG applies category-specific multipliers that adjust the base fee up or down. Here is how each category stacks up:

CategoryMultiplierImpact
Keys1.20×Highest fees — keys are heavily taxed
Weapons1.15×Above-average fees
Armor1.10×Slightly above standard
General / Tech1.00×Standard base rate
Medical0.95×Slightly reduced fees
Provisions0.90×Lowest fees — food and drink

If you are unsure which category an item falls under, select General for the standard 1.00× rate. The calculator will still give you a reliable estimate.

When to Sell on Flea vs. Vendor

The flea market is not always the best option. Sometimes, selling directly to a trader is faster, safer, and more profitable. Here is how to decide:

Sell on Flea When...

  • The item has high demand (GPUs, LEDX, Bitcoin, stims). Check real-time demand on Tarkov.dev.
  • You have Intel Center Level 2+ to offset fees.
  • The break-even price is well below current market prices.
  • You are not in a rush and can wait for the sale.
  • The item is needed for a Hideout upgrade or quest — players pay premiums.

Sell to Vendor When...

  • The item is low-value (< 20,000 ₽) — fees eat most of the margin.
  • You need instant cash for your next raid loadout. See our TTK Calculator to optimise your loadout damage.
  • The break-even price is higher than realistic market prices.
  • You have no Intel Center and the category multiplier is high (keys, weapons).
  • The item is damaged or has low durability.

Most Profitable Items to Sell on Flea

Based on community data and trader buy prices, these items consistently deliver the best flea market margins:

  • LEDX Skin Transilluminator (630,000 ₽ base) — Labs and Shoreline rare spawn. Always in demand for Therapist quests.
  • Graphics Card (210,000 ₽ base) — Bitcoin Farm fuel. High turnover, stable margins.
  • Defibrillator (155,000 ₽ base) — Medical item with reduced fees. Strong profit even at moderate markups.
  • Virtex Processor (125,000 ₽ base) — Hideout and barter staple. Tech category keeps fees standard.
  • SJ6 Combat Stimulant (65,000 ₽ base) — Medical category (0.95×) means lower fees. Chads buy these in bulk.

Use the preset buttons in the calculator to instantly load any of these items and see your optimal listing price.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the flea fee calculator?

The calculator uses a BSG-formula-shaped model that closely mirrors the in-game fee structure. While the exact BSG formula is not publicly documented and may change between wipes, our divergence-based penalty system, category multipliers, and Intel Center discounts produce results within a few percent of actual in-game fees.

Why is my break-even price higher than the base price?

Because the flea market charges a fee even when listing at the exact trader price. At base price, the fee is roughly 1.5% of the item value (minus Intel Center discounts). You must list slightly above base price just to cover that fee — this is your break-even point.

What happens if I list way above the optimal price?

The divergence penalty increases non-linearly. Listing at 2× base price roughly doubles your fee rate. Listing at 3× can triple it. Eventually, the fee catches up to your listing price and net profit starts declining. The calculator scans up to 5× base price to find the true optimum.

Do all traders pay the same base price?

In Tarkov, each trader has different buy prices for different items. Therapist pays most for medical items, Mechanic for tech, Ragman for gear, and Jaeger for survival items. Our calculator uses a representative "best trader" price. For maximum accuracy, enter the exact price your best trader offers.

Should I factor in flea market reputation?

Flea market reputation affects how many listing slots you have, not the fee itself. This calculator focuses on per-item profitability. If you are low on slots, prioritize your highest-margin items and sell the rest to vendors.
